Dr: Is there anything else?
Me: My wife said I had to talk to you about my memory loss. I forget names sometimes but I think over all I’m doing fine for my age. I’ll be 73 in a few weeks.
Dr: You have nothing to worry about. Remember we did a battery of memory tests on you?
Me: [long pause] We did? You mean a few questions like, “Can you count backwards from one hundred by threes?”
Dr: No. Remember you went to the memory clinic for a bunch of tests and they did a CAT scan of your brain?
Me: [another longer pause] I’m sorry. I don’t remember this at all. Are you sure?
Dr: Yes, but you were fine.
Me: Doctor, this is a little scary because I have absolutely no memory of that at all. I do sometimes not remember things from way back in the past.
Dr: This was just in the last year or two.
Me: Now I AM a little concerned because I’m just not remembering this at all. Seriously! I went to the memory clinic and had a CAT scan of my head?
Dr: Yes. Do you want me to print out a copy of the report?
Me: [feeling increasingly nervous] Yes, that would be very helpful because I just have no memory of any of that.
[Doctor is gone for about 5-10 minutes]
Dr: [door cracks open and dr. pokes his head in very briefly] I’m sorry. I was confusing you with another patient. I guess I have the memory problem. [doctor pulls head back and closes door]
Me: [laughing hilariously all the way home]
