My friend, Jeff Cook, shared these thoughts on his FB page. They are thought-provoking with their implications for how we understand the Scriptures, and how we see the world and our own government and political landscape. All the kingdoms of this world are “Babylon” (including the USA). That’s why we pray, “let Your Kingdom come.” You can read the full post on Jeffs’ FB page:
“Are we reading the same Bible?
Close your eyes, point to any chapter in the Bible and you will probably land on a familiar story of the abuse of power.
Joseph – suffered unjustly at the hands of those in power.
Israelites in Egypt – suffered unjustly at the hands of those in power.
Jeremiah – suffered unjustly at the hands of those in power.
Daniel – suffered unjustly at the hands of those in power.
John – suffered unjustly at the hands of those in power.
Paul – suffered unjustly at the hands of those in power.
The apostles – suffered unjustly at the hands of those in power.
Jesus – suffered unjustly at the hands of those in power.
Early church – suffered unjustly at the hands of those in power.
etc, etc, etc.
Yes or no? Is that a major theme of the Bible or not?”
